Ahh... a quilt show. Is there anything more exciting than a quilt show? On September 10-13th we had our Quilt Expo in Madison, WI. I had the privilege to give a lecture on Stained Glass Quilting with Mary, my friend and partner in our new DVD project (click here to find out more). I also shared a booth with our friend Teresa of Twin Turtle quilts. It had been awhile since I had vended and I had seemed to forget the sights and sounds of a quilt show.
I remembered the gorgeous quilts, of course, as you will see in the pictures in this post. However, I had forgotten the excited chatter of the visitors as they walk through the aisles. A quilt show is a happy place , a place to reunite with other quilting friends. A place to plan a project, or get inspired to try something new. It is sometimes the place that motivates one to finish a current project. Catching only fragments of conversations I hear whispers of "ooh I bought that very pattern last year" or "I haven't started that quilt and they graduate in just a few months". The most common seems to be I really don't need any more fabric or another pattern but….. It seems that many of us are cut from the same cloth so to speak. I for one can't wait for the next show.
This amazing quilt won "Best of Show". It is "Cathedral Ceiling" by Mildred Sorrels from Macomb, IL.
When I spoke with Mildred she shared that she works about 6 months on a quilt and the results of those months of dedication are very apparent.
I love these pictorial quilts - the details are beyond belief. The quilt pictured is called "Delicious" by Rachel Wetzler.
"Crystal Revelation" by Susan Nelson from Prior Lake, MN.
This quit was so beautiful and vivid... I am afraid my photo doesn't do it justice. But the judges also thought it was fabulous: as you can see it was awarded with a Blue ribbon.
Here is a photo of our Stained Glass lecture. What a great facility to teach at and we had a great group of enthusiastic quilters.
Here is Mary setting up all the AV equipment. Thank goodness for her and all her many skills! If it was just me, it may be done by candle light.
